Divine Timeline

John 7:6-8

Therefore Jesus told them, “My time is not yet here; for you any time will do. The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify that its works are evil. You go to the festival. I am not going up to this festival, because my time has not yet fully come.”

Jesus’ brothers urged Him to leave Galilee and go to Jerusalem, where the crowds that had gathered for the festival could see Jesus’ miracles and believe in Him. His brothers’ motives were not pure. John said that they did not believe in Jesus. Their advice was mocking and sarcastic.

Instead of rebuking His brothers, Jesus explained that His purpose was not on their timetable. They were thinking in merely human terms. Jesus was functioning on the divine level. His time had “not yet fully come.”

Our inclination is often like that of Jesus’ brothers. We want Jesus to do what we tell Him to do and get it done on our schedule. We see things merely from the human, temporal standpoint. But He sees behind the curtain of time. He is never late. He is always right on time.

Father, help me to follow Your timeline, not mine. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
