Desperate!

Psalm 143:1-6
A psalm of David.

LORD, hear my prayer, listen to my cry for mercy; in your faithfulness and righteousness come to my relief. Do not bring your servant into judgment, for no one living is righteous before you. The enemy pursues me, he crushes me to the ground; he makes me dwell in the darkness like those long dead. So my spirit grows faint within me; my heart within me is dismayed. I remember the days of long ago; I meditate on all your works and consider what your hands have done. I spread out my hands to you; I thirst for you like a parched land.

Where do you turn when your spirit grows faint within you? Where can you find peace when your heart is filled with turmoil? Where can you hide from the enemy who is crushing you to the ground?

David had many challenges throughout his life. For over a decade he ran from a jealous King Saul who was determined to kill him. He spent many days and nights hiding in caves and crying out to the Lord. Often his cries were desperate. His longing for God’s deliverance was like a man dying of thirst in the desert.

Maybe your cries are desperate today. You are disappointed with your current situation. Discouragement has settled over your heart like a dense fog. You long for God; and…He longs for you! He hears your cry for mercy. He is coming to provide relief. Hold on! The heavenly Father will always take care of His children—now and forever!

Father, hurry to my rescue. I am not sure how much longer I can hold on. Bring light to my darkness and hope to my helplessness. Quench my thirst with the comfort and confidence of Your Spirit. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
