Crazy Turns

Psalm 78:50-55

He prepared a path for his anger; he did not spare them from death but gave them over to the plague. He struck down all the firstborn of Egypt, the firstfruits of manhood in the tents of Ham. But he brought his people out like a flock; he led them like sheep through the wilderness. He guided them safely, so they were unafraid; but the sea engulfed their enemies. And so he brought them to the border of his holy land, to the hill country his right hand had taken. He drove out nations before them and allotted their lands to them as an inheritance; he settled the tribes of Israel in their homes.

Life can take crazy turns. A small lump changes our schedule to include surgery and treatment. An infection turns a routine procedure into months of antibiotics. Some jobs don’t work out. Some relationships don’t end well. Some children don’t come back home.

Israel lived under the heavy hand of slavery…until God said, “Enough!” God freed His people by showing Pharaoh His convincing power. Then, like a loving shepherd with his sheep, God “brought his people out like a flock.” He guided them safely through dangerous paths. His presence calmed their fear.

The Lord is our shepherd. He leads us through those crazy turns. He promises to never leave nor forsake us. Trust the Shepherd with your journey. He will guide you safely home.

Father, I trust You as the sheep trust their shepherd. Thank You for Your presence. Guide me through this rough path in my journey. Let me hear Your calming voice. Let me feel Your strong arm of deliverance. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
