Continued Growth

Matthew 13:33

He told them still another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough.”

Throughout history many have tried to stop the kingdom of God. The Jewish leaders thought putting Jesus on the cross would do it. But that was only the beginning. Believers have been the subject of ridicule and have lost their homes and properties. Some have been put in prison, tormented, and burned at the stake. Others, more recently, have been targeted with suicide bombings for their faith. And yet, nothing can ever stop God’s work in the heart of man.

In today’s passage, Jesus said that the kingdom of heaven was like yeast. Yeast is the dynamic ingredient that begins the leavening process and that process keeps going. In the same way the present kingdom of heaven continues to grow in numbers until the eternal kingdom begins.

Pray for those around the world experiencing persecution for their faith. Persecution has never squelched Christianity. Rather, it has been ignited by times of challenge and difficulty. Pray that current persecutions today will encourage people to trust in Jesus and follow hard after Him.

Father, I pray for protection, courage, and resolve for all believers around the world who are experiencing a time of persecution. Use their lives to ignite Your work one person at a time. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
