Coming Home

Psalm 43
Vindicate me, my God, and plead my cause against an unfaithful nation. Rescue me from those who are deceitful and wicked. You are God my stronghold. Why have you rejected me? Why must I go about mourning, oppressed by the enemy? Send me your light and your faithful care, let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell. Then I will go to the altar of God, to God, my joy and my delight. I will praise you with the lyre, O God, my God. Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.

The psalmist wants to go home. He wants to go back to Jerusalem and be near God. God is his joy and delight. He wants to sing praises to the One he loves. He is certain that one day he will make it back.

Can you relate? There is a longing in your soul to return home. You have been gone too long. The path that led you away caused you to lose your way. You have left the spiritual things that once meant so much. You want to praise God again. You want the joy to return.

Today is the day to start the journey back home. Ask God to send His light to illumine the road signs. Ask Him to provide faithful care along the path. He will be your stronghold. Put your hope in God. It’s time to join with others and sing praises from the bottom of your heart to God your Savior.

Father, I want to return home to the place where You dwell. I want to return to the spiritual state I once knew. I am prone to wander. Lord, bring me back and let me sing Your praises once again. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
