Promises: The Lord is a Stronghold

Promises: The Lord is a Stronghold

This past week the clouds gathered, and the sky darkened, interrupted by periodic flashes of lightning. A storm was on its way, and in a matter of minutes, it unleashed rain, hail, wind, cracks of thunder, and flashes of lightning.

There is no getting around it. Storms will come, and sometimes they are unleashed in our lives. Personal storms come through unmet expectations and unfulfilled dreams. Sometimes clouds of darkness from illness and grief build in our hearts: disappointment, discouragement, disillusionment, and depression rain in our souls. But amid the storm—God is our stronghold!

Promises: On His Mind

Promises: On His Mind

The Creator has you on his mind. What an amazing truth! In today’s psalm, we see that God is magnificent and filled with splendor. He is exalted above all creation. And he has you on his mind. That’s a great promise.

Promises: Shield. Protector. Deliverer.

Conflicts are hard. And they are extremely difficult when the issue is with your own children. That’s where King David found himself in today’s psalm. Promises in the Psalms: The Refreshing Difference

Promises in the Psalms: The Refreshing Difference

Welcome to Promises in the Psalms—a devotional series purposed to glean the great promises of God from Israel’s book of worship. In this collection of prayers, songs, laments, and crying out to God, we will find rich promises to form the foundation of our journey. Let’s begin with the first psalm to ascertain where the believer’s delight is found.

At Peace

At Peace

The true believer has eternal security. No one can snatch us out of God’s hand (John 10:27-30). Nothing can separate us from his love (Romans 8:38-39). Our imperishable inheritance is kept in heaven for us “who through faith are shielded by God’s power” (1 Peter 1:3-5 NIV). But the assurance of our salvation does not allow us to live a sloppy spiritual life.

Waiting

Waiting

Think about it! Disease that wracks the body—healed! Broken hearts from broken relationships—over! Wayward children—home! Stricken with grief—comforted! Addictions—overcome! Years of separation—united! Disappointment—elation!
