Psalm 11:1-2

In the LORD I take refuge. How then can you say to me: “Flee like a bird to your mountain. For look, the wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows against the strings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart.”

I am sure you have seen the cartoon with two deer talking to each other. One deer has what looks like a big target with a bulls-eye in the middle positioned over his heart. The other deer says, “Bummer of a birthmark, Ralph.”

If you are a believer, you have a “birthmark” in the shape of a cross right on your heart. It is a constant reminder that Jesus came and died an awful death so that you can have an abundant life . . . today and forever. However, be sure of this, that “birthmark” makes you a target of the enemy. Satan prowls around like a lion looking for an opportunity to spring out from the shadows.

We are no match for Satan and his sinister schemes. But remember your “birthmark!” You belong to the One who has already defeated the enemy and his most potent weapon . . . death. You can say confidently with the psalmist, “In the Lord I take refuge.” That’s the beauty of our “birthmark.”

Father, today, in the midst of the enemy’s attack, I take refuge in You and You alone. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
