BATTLE READY: THE ENCOUNTER

by | Oct 23, 2023 | Battle Ready, Daily Devotion | 0 comments

The spiritual battle hits us from all sides. Satan desires to keep unbelievers blind to the gospel. He is at work to discredit and destroy us. The culture around us is opposed to God. Our fleshly desires rise within our souls. The battle rages within and without. And…we must never forget—the battle belongs to the Lord!

Paul tells us to “be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might” (Ephesians 6:10). The strength of God’s might is a picture of a warrior. In the Old Testament, God is often described as a warrior wearing battle gear. Let’s consider the following passages.

Exodus 15:3
The Lord is a man of war; the Lord is his name.

The Egyptian army was closing in on the Israelites, who were breathing their first breaths of freedom. But God intervened. He opened the Red Sea for his people to cross and then closed the waters on the Egyptian army. In his praise song following this miraculous demonstration of God’s power, Moses called God a “man of war” or “mighty warrior.”

Isaiah 42:13
The Lord goes out like a mighty man, like a man of war he stirs up his zeal; he cries out, he shouts aloud, he shows himself mighty against his foes.

God is like a mighty warrior, like a soldier prepared for battle. He is ready to fight for us. Like an army gives a loud cry before going into battle, so God shouts aloud as he prepares to protect us. He always shows strength and always defeats his foes. Every spiritual battle belongs to the Lord.

Isaiah 59:16-17
He saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no one to intercede; then his own arm brought him salvation, and his righteousness upheld him. He put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation on his head; he put on garments of vengeance for clothing, and wrapped himself in zeal as a cloak.

When God saw that there was no one to intervene, he stepped forward. He always does. By his strong arm, he delivered salvation. Isaiah describes God dressing for battle. He put on the breastplate of righteousness and the helmet of salvation. He put on battle clothing and demonstrated his passion to win the battle for us.

We are in a spiritual battle, but we are not fighting alone. We fight with the Lord of heaven’s armies, the Mighty Warrior. We will always win the battle when God is on our side!

Father,
We acknowledge you as the Mighty Warrior who fights our spiritual battles. Help us stay by your side and experience the victory only you can deliver. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
