Are You Ready?

Mark 13:1-4

As Jesus was leaving the temple, one of his disciples said to him, “Look, Teacher! What massive stones! What magnificent buildings!” “Do you see all these great buildings?” replied Jesus. “Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.” As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John and Andrew asked him privately, “Tell us, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are all about to be fulfilled?”

It was an innocent remark. One of the disciples told Jesus how impressed he was by the temple structure. Jesus took the comment and turned it into a teaching moment. He explained that this magnificent building would be destroyed. Later, in a private meeting, Jesus told four disciples when and how the destruction would happen.

Jesus explained that wars, famines, and earthquakes would be followed by persecution. Families would be divided. Christians would be hated. Persecution would be rampant. “If the Lord had not cut short those days,” Jesus said, “no one would survive.” But then everything changes.

“At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory.” The end is the beginning. Christ will return and take His own to be with Him forever! Are you ready for that day?

Father, thank You for the promise of Christ’s return. May everyone reading this be ready. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
