Amen

Revelation 3:14

“And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: ‘The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God’s creation.’”

The Greek word amen means “so be it.” Used as a name, Amen describes one who is perfectly trustworthy and faithful. Jesus is the Amen. He will always do what he says. He is always dependable to accomplish his plans. He will never fail those who follow him.

Paul writes in 2 Corinthians that no matter how many promises God has made, they “find their Yes in [Christ]” (2 Corinthians 1:20). God will never go back on his Word. He will never fail to bring about what he has spoken. Moses explained, “God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?” (Numbers 23:19).

When we trust in Jesus, we trust in the Amen. God places his seal of ownership on us and gives us his Spirit as a deposit guaranteeing what is to come. In Christ, we will always stand firm (2 Corinthians 1:22).

Father,

Thank you for setting your seal of ownership on us and giving us your Spirit. Thank you for the guarantee of eternal life. Thank you for Jesus, the Amen.

I pray in his name. Amen.
