All I Want for Christmas: Peace

by | Dec 2, 2022 | All I Want for Christmas, Daily Devotion | 1 comment

Matthew 3:17
And behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”

The public ministry of Jesus began when he traveled to the Jordan River to be baptized by John the Baptist. Though Jesus had no need to repent and be cleansed from sin, his baptism was the first act that identified him with humanity’s sin and becoming our substitute. His work on the cross would bring us peace.

God celebrated his Son’s first step to the cross. As soon as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens opened, and the Spirit of God descended on him like a dove. “And behold, a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.’”

God still celebrates our journey today. The Holy Spirit, who lives with and in every believer, encourages us along each step, regardless of whether we are in the valley or on the mountaintop. He reminds us that we are his children. He whispers his love. He comforts our hearts. He delivers his peace.

Father, thank you for your Holy Spirit, who lives with us and in us. By the power of your Spirit, help us to obey. When we fall, help us to seek your forgiveness. Today may we hear you say, “I am pleased you are my child. I love you!” May we experience the great peace of God. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
