All I Want for Christmas: Joy

Luke 1:31-33
And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.

In Hebrew, the name is “Joshua.” The Greek form of the same name is “Jesus.” In both languages, it means the same, “The Lord saves.” And that is exactly what Jesus came to do.

Jesus was a great teacher, but education was not the reason for his coming. Jesus was a great leader, but simply learning leadership principles from the life of Jesus misses his primary purpose. Describing his mission, Jesus said, “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost” (Luke 19:10). And the salvation that he provides is forever.

The kingdom of Jesus will never end! He will reign forever and ever. The salvation Jesus brings will not last until a more powerful kingdom comes on the scene. He will never be overthrown. He is the Son of the Most High. When you trust him to save you today, you can be sure that your salvation will last throughout eternity!

Jesus brings eternal joy!

Dear heavenly Father, thank you for sending your son to save me. I was lost, and you found me. I was dead, and you gave me life. I was your enemy, and you made me your friend. Thank you for bringing me into your eternal kingdom that will never end. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
