Luke 1:48b-50

From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me—holy is his name. His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation.

The visit from the angel Gabriel was frightening and the news was unbelievable, but Mary surrendered to God’s will. When the angel’s words to her were confirmed by her visit to Elizabeth, who was with child in her old age, Mary burst into song. Her song is filled with Scripture and truth about God:

God is the “Mighty One.” God is all-powerful (omnipotent). Nothing is impossible with Him. His power is seen throughout the Old Testament: Creation, Noah, and the flood, saving Israel through Joseph, plagues on Egypt, the Red Sea, manna in the wilderness, the Jordan River, the walls of Jericho…the list goes on. Now His power is seen in the birth of His Son through a virgin. All generations will call Mary blessed.

God is holy. Mary proclaims, “Holy is his name.” God’s holiness means that He is untainted; set apart. Mary does not understand all that God is doing, but she trusts Him. Since He is holy, all that He says and does is right, perfect, and pure.

God is merciful. In God’s grace, He gives us what we don’t deserve. In His mercy, He doesn’t give us what we do deserve. God’s great mercy is granted to all who trust Him. His mercy extends throughout generations.

Praise You, Lord, for Your power. There is nothing that You can’t do.

Praise You, Lord, for Your holiness. Everything You do is perfect and pure.

Praise You, Lord, for Your mercy. It extends through time and eternity.

For parents: Mary’s song is about her love for God. Ask your children to write a song about their love for Jesus. Or ask them to share their favorite song. Please share these songs with us so that we can share them with others. Email us at prayer@ronmoore.org.
