A Change of Heart

Matthew 21:28-31

“What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’ ‘I will not,’ he answered, but later he changed his mind and went. Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, ‘I will, sir,’ but he did not go. Which of the two did what his father wanted?” “The first,” they answered.

In order to communicate that the religious leaders were turning away from Him and “sinners” were joining with Him, Jesus told a story of two brothers. We’ll consider the first brother today and the second brother tomorrow.

The first brother was one of those people who spoke before he thought. His dad asked him to do some work in the vineyard and he immediately retorted, “I will not.” Later his tender heart trumped his sharp tongue. Although he adamantly rejected his father’s request, he ended up changing his mind and spent the day working in the vineyard. He did what his father asked him to do.

Maybe part of the first brother’s story has some of you in it. God has asked you to do something and you have refused. Maybe you are living in opposition to His Word. It’s not too late for a change of attitude and a change of heart. Today you can humble yourself before God, ask His forgiveness, and return to obedience. He longs to welcome you back.

Father, I am sorry for my blatant refusal to do what You have asked me to do. Please forgive me. I am ready to obey. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Ready to return to obedience? Let us pray for you. prayer@ronmoore.org
