[expand title=”Devotion Text”]Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Wholehearted trust. A life sold out to God. This life is not based on probabilities (the desire to eliminate risk) but possibilities (the desire to see God do amazing things). Trust is believing that through Jesus, God has done for me what I could never do for myself. And through the Holy Spirit, God does for me what I can’t do by myself. Wholehearted trust does not have all the answers but knows the One who does.
Wholehearted trust is the confidence that God knows best in all situations. He will always lead me in the right direction. He will always supply all I need to do what he wants me to do. Trust does not mean I disengage my brain or disregard reason. But there are times when I just can’t figure it out, when things don’t make sense, and when the directional signs are not well marked. That’s when wholehearted trust must kick in.
Wholehearted trust gives me the courage to move forward when I am fearful and the strength to keep going when I am worn out. As I recognize God as the leader in everything, he will remove the obstacles so I can follow the straight paths that lead to his intended destination. And when I arrive, there is a true sense of satisfaction knowing that I have taken a journey with God.
Talking to God
Father, I like to be…I want to be in control. I want to trust in my own understanding. Forgive me. I surrender all the areas of my life to you. Turn my wavering into unshakeable faith. Show me the futility of trusting in myself and the spiritual success of trusting in you alone. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
