Thirst Quencher

John 7:37-39

On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive.

Physical thirst parches the throat; spiritual thirst parches the soul. Spiritual thirst leaves one longing for something satisfying, meaningful, fulfilling. It is a deep craving for a supernatural work.

Jesus said, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink.”

Physical thirst can be quenched. A cold drink soothes the body and provides a sense of relief. Spiritual thirst is quenched by Jesus. Only He can provide satisfaction for the soul.

Jesus said, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink.”

Physical thirst can be satisfied…but only for a time. You will be thirsty again. Spiritual thirst can be satisfied forever. The “rivers of living water” Jesus provides will never run dry.

Jesus said, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink.”

Has your thirsty soul been satisfied by Jesus? Ask Him to quench this thirst by giving you the “living water.”

Dear Jesus, I am thirsty deep inside my soul. I have tried to quench my thirst with many things—possessions, relationships, career, family—but nothing has met the deep craving. You say, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink.” Today I come. Please satisfy the deep desires of my heart. I trust in You. Amen.
