The Spirit can and will overpower the sinful nature every time. Part of the growth process involves God allowing me to learn dependence upon his Spirit or caving to my own sinful desires.
If your thinking, emotions, and desires are set on what the Holy Spirit desires, you will live your life under his control.
Jesus’ life and death were acts of relent for you and me. He bought us by his death and brought us together as the church through his ultimate surrender.
