Proverbs 16:4
The Lord has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble.

Sovereignty is an attribute of God that provides the basis for faith. It describes the exercise of God’s power over all creation. God rules over every life and in all of history.
He “made everything for its purpose.” He ensures that everyone’s actions and the consequences of those actions correspond—even the “wicked” who live opposed to his
Word and will.

Sovereignty expresses God’s ability to accomplish his will and his dependability to do all he has promised. Because God is sovereign, we know that his Person is steadfast, and his Word is rock solid.

God’s sovereignty is the basis for faith. He not only works out everything for his own ends, but he promises to work them out for our good (Romans 8:28). Thank God for his
sovereignty. Without it, our faith is baseless.

Father, thank you for your loving control and power over all creation. Thank you for being the all-powerful God whose Word is certain, and your promises are sure. Thank
you for being the God who can be trusted. Grow our faith in you.
