You have seen them work. They are focused and active. Carrying up to twenty-five times their body weight, these busy little insects with chambered bodies make it their mission to secure food for the winter. Even though they face no threat of job loss, have no boss looking over their shoulder, and have no quota, they must meet. Ants innately get the job done and work especially hard during picnics and camping trips. Lazy ants don’t survive. Neither do lazy people.
Here’s what today’s proverb says:
Proverbs 6:6-8
Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Without having any chief, officer, or ruler, she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest.
Laziness puts a person and all those who depend on him/her at risk. Idleness will not provide for the needs of today. Working half-heartedly will jeopardize the wherewithal to meet the needs of tomorrow. Failing to plan “for the winter” will threaten the security of the future.
So, get up and get going! Look up and ask God for strength! Look down and follow the example of those busy ants!
Father, make us the best employees, the hardest workers, and the best planners, fully dependent on you for all the outcomes.
In Christ’s name.
Amen.
